Toward Space originates innocently, yet viciously.
Seyla Hossaini and David Pahtoon met at the local pool when they were ten years old and quickly began immersing themselves into the depths of every contorted, nasty subform of Rock n’ Roll. Initially performing as a two-piece, the duo composed songs that blurred divisions between glam, garage, surf, punk and blues.
Toward Space could only be produced by the chaotic musical melting pot of Richmond, VA.
After years of honing in on their individual voices and instruments, they were joined by Javier Yamamoto on drums to release Avoid the Draft in 2016 and quickly followed with The Bomb That Fell in 2017. Both EPs were recorded at Sound of Music Studios with producer John Morand. The three-piece followed each EP release with short tours exploring and playing in clubs and house venues in and around the Northeast, Midwest, and South.
Toward Space presents unadulterated songs of love, resentment, and dystopia.
The current lineup now consists of Seyla on bass and vocals, David on guitar and vocals, and recent addition Ben Rosenstock, another local musician who admired the band through shared stages and house shows, on drums to replace Yamamoto. The three recorded and released the band’s first full-length album entitled Gently with a Chainsaw in 2018 once again at Sound of Music with Morand. The supporting tour consisted of 19 dates in 12 states and saw Toward Space make their first cross-country push out to the Pacific coast playing in front of new audiences each night.
Toward Space will reconvene to record and release their next album in 2019.
